Tiger Woods is ‘A lot more at peace now’

Tiger Woods is ‘A lot more at peace now’

10.20.2010 – Tiger Woods, 34, and the current No.1 golfer in the world is in the mindset that he is much more relaxed and focused towards his golf game after finalizing his divorce with Elin Nordegren.

The American golf legend expressed his feelings in a recent interview in that he is simply at peace with all now, and wants to give his full to his eternal love of life… the game of golf.

Woods is hoping to participate next month in China at the HSBC Champions event, as he is about to lose his No.1 in the world golf ranking to Lee Westwood, which Woods has held strong for the past five years. The past year has been pretty tumultuous to say the least for Tiger Woods. From suffering a very public sex scandal, to numerous mistress allegations about him, to having a ‘love child’ with a porn star, to a major divorce settlement of 0 million, and most recently a sex tape – which has recently been proven a fake… it’s been a tough year for Tiger.

It’s no surprise Tiger Woods golf game has been drastically affected throughout the year, as he has not one an event to date. However, Woods did play well for team USA at the Ryder Cup a few weeks ago at Celtic Manor in Wales. Woods has been working harder than ever to improve his golf swing techniques and find his winning groove, which may very well happen this year… or early next.

During an interview with the press, Woods expressed his feelings that he is simply at peace, feeling perfect, and ready to focus his concentration towards his professional golf career. When commenting on his personal life, he touched on that he is getting used to his new living conditions, and is feeling much more comfortable than before. Woods also mentioned that his young children are also trying to adjust to the situation and that everyone seems happier now than before.

Stay tuned for more Tiger Woods news as he sets his sites on winning the HSBC Champions event in China next month.

Learn This Easy Secret To A More Powerful Golf Swing

Learn This Easy Secret To A More Powerful Golf Swing

Article by The Golf Swing Genius

Setting up to the golf ball with good golf swing angles and maintaining those angles properly in the golf swing is a big key to successful golf. Many golfers I teach will tend to do some things well in their setup and their golf swings almost automatically maybe without even knowing what exactly they are doing. This may be their natural athletic ability or instincts coming out. Sometimes a golfer will do something that is wrong because it feels right or is comfortable. Having sharp angles with your posture is a critical element to helping a golfer have a more powerful and consistent golf swing and achieve better results.

There are three important angles that should be present in your setup position. The first angle comes from bending your knees. Some golfers bend their knees too much, while others don’t bend them enough. The checkpoint for how much to bend your knees is to bend them so they cover up your shoelaces. When you look down at your feet while in your golf setup position, you shouldn’t see your shoelaces but you will still see your toes if you are doing this correctly. Bending the knees properly will also help to get your weight more forward into the balls of your feet where you will be able to make more balanced swings.

The second angle that will form in your setup comes from bending the hips. This is sometimes a tricky one for amateur or higher handicap golfers to get correct. To bend correctly from your hips, you should basically stick your butt out while keeping your back straight. This forms the angle between your thighs and your torso. Rounding the back is a weak setup position and leads to a weaker swing. Remember sharp angles will produce more power and distance.

Lastly, the third important setup angle is between your forearms and your golf club shaft. The arms will hang down fairly straight in the setup but they must be extended. When you extend your arms in your setup, you want them to be straight but not locked where they would be stiff and tight. So extend your arms down but do not lock your elbows. The hands will rest nicely down and there should be an angle between the club and your arms. Some golfers have trouble getting this setup angle correct. There is an easy way to get this right. When you setup up to the golf ball, take your golf club and extend it straight up. If your hands are in the right position, the butt end of the golf grip should hit right at your belt buckle or belt line. If your hands are too high and you do this drill, the club will hit up higher towards your stomach or chest. And if your hands are too low from bending too much, the angle between your forearm and the club shaft will be too big as well.

Getting these three setup angle will really help improve your golf swing as long as you make your swing and turn while maintaining these angles. Standing up or dipping down in the golf swing is a common problem for some golfers so try and stay in your angles or stay level and the same height throughout your golf swing and you’ll hit the golf ball way more easily and effortlessly while adding extra power and distance.

Generate More Power With A Wide Golf Swing Arc

Generate More Power With A Wide Golf Swing Arc

Article by The Golf Swing Genius

Having a wide golf swing arc is important for getting more power out of your swing. Golf swing extension will promote a wider arc and there are a few helpful tips that can help you achieve this.

First of all, a wide swing arc will start with a proper golf swing takeaway. Make sure the club stays as low to the ground as possible while you are starting your backswing. It is a common golf swing error to pick the club up too quickly at the start of the backswing which will make it almost impossible to get a good arc in your swing. You want to stay in your angles from your setup position as you take the golf club back. The arms should be fully extended all the way to the halfway back point in the backswing. At this point the right arms will naturally bend as you take the rest of your backswing and swing the golf club over your right shoulder.

In the downswing your right arm will now need to straighten as your club lowers. It’s important to maintain your wrist set or hinge on the downswing but also allow the right arm to straighten. From the point halfway down in the backswing, both arms should be fully extended with no elbow bend. Keep the wrists bent as long as possible as this creates lag in the golf swing. Once you’ve hit through the golf ball at impact, your arms should stay fully extended until the club gets halfway up on the follow through which is where your left arm will now bend as you complete the golf swing by swinging the club over your left shoulder.

Another point about keeping your arms straight is that they should be extended but not locked or too stiff and rigid. This will cause more problems and make hitting good golf shots difficult. At the setup position, the arms should always be extended but not locked. This will ensure you can make a wide golf swing arc while keeping the fluidity necessary for a proper swinging motion.

Now, in order to achieve a wide swing arc, golfers will sometimes make the mistake of swaying or moving laterally in the golf swing. This is a common error that can cause more problems. You might make a wider arc, but you’ll lose your center and it will be difficult to move the same distance back to hit the golf ball solidly. There should be a turn and a weight shift in the backswing, but only so the weight goes to the inside part of the right foot. If your weight moves too far to the outside of the back foot, there is too much lateral movement in the swing. As long as the weight shift is correct and there good extension with the arms in the swing, you’ll gain a lot of extra power and more distance out on the golf course.

Winning Is More Important Than Swing

Winning Is More Important Than Swing

Article by Ellachan

Song-Hee Kim read a message that eased her mind when she consulted yardage book during the Kraft Nabisco Championship on Thursday. A phrase meant to help Kim trust her decisions on the course.Pia Nilsson, who founded the company Vision 54 with Lynn Marriott, helped her come up with that mantra.

The pair, along with two other coaches from the company, worked with more than 10 golfers playing with TaylorMade Burner SuperFast 2.0 Fairway Wood at the Kraft this week, including Kim, Ai Miyazato, Jane Park, Brittany Lincicome and Na Yeon Choi. Their whole approach to the game, which emphasizes elements that complement the sport’s technical aspects, has made them two of the most famed female coaches in golf.In 2009 before she won the Kraft, Lincicome consulted Vision 54 for the first time. She took to heart a few pointers that kept her positive during the week. She sang country songs by Sugarland and Keith Urban during the final round to be relaxed and concentrated on her breathing. After her victory, she went to Vision 54 in Phoenix for several days, and she still explores guidance from the company. The lessons she has learned about tempo, balance and breathing continue to sustain her. She said she would have been lost during her round Friday without Vision 54.

“It felt like I could have shot 100 today if it wasn’t for them keeping me just positive and indicating on things that we’ve been working on for the past two years now,” she said after shooting an even par 72 on Friday.

After founding Vision 54 in 1999, Marriott and Nilsson, who mentored Annika Sorenstam for many years, have built the program into an influential force in the sport. The “54″ refers to golfers believing that a round of 18-under 54 is possible.

Last year, Golf Digest named Nilsson and Marriott the sport’s top two female coaches. Well-versed in the technical intricacies of the golf swing by taylormade r9 irons, the two ask players to delve into the physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual facets of the game to find balance. “It’s easy to get out of peak performance,” Nilsson said.

Marriott and Nilsson are coming out with a new book later this month titled “Who Can Swing Perfect,” which aims to spell out their principles more explicitly. Some of their keys include “find your balance both physically and mentally” and “feel your tempo on the course and dance to its rhythm.”

Nilsson tailored her coaching at the Kraft this week to fit each golfer’s specific needs. She helped Miyazato perfect her tempo and worked with Kim on committing to her decisions. While Kim is a phenomenal striker of the ball, Nilsson said, she can waffle when faced with a crucial choice on the course.

Other golfers are perfectionists. Nilsson worked with Park and Choi this week on how to distract their minds from negative thoughts after hitting poor shots.

To distract herself on the course, Nilsson prefers to focus on her breathing and talk to her playing partners during a round, but each golfer has her own approach. “We don’t care if you count steps or sing a song,” Nilsson said.

Los Angeles Golf Courses: Sun, Surf and More

Los Angeles Golf Courses: Sun, Surf and More

Article by Wayne Hemrick

Of course you don’t want to play golf on the beach, which would be like playing in a gargantuan sand trap – but you can certainly enjoy a view of the ocean while playing at several Los Angeles golf courses, many of which are absolute garden spots. When it comes to the choice of a golf course los angeles aficionados can choose from any one of dozens of well-maintained, challenging public facilities – which are economical to use (in some cases they are free to the public), and include practice areas where you can concentrate on perfecting specific skills such as putting or swing – or one of the city’s exclusive private country clubs. In fact, many a private la golf course is legendary; a few private Los Angeles golf courses date back to the early years of the 20th Century. Who’s to say you won’t run into the ghosts of some silver screen legends such as Charlie Chaplin or Clark Gable?

We’re kidding, of course – there’s no such thing as ghosts (right?) You’ll definitely enjoy the mature and meticulous landscaping as well as gorgeous views when you play at a private LA golf course like Bobby Jones Golf just outside Malibu or one of the several exclusive LA golf courses in and around spectacular Topanga State Park.

Private vs. the Public Golf Course

Los Angeles residents enjoy having a choice between private country clubs and public municipal facilities; each of these offer certain advantages to particular people, and some may be better served by one more than the other. Private LA golf courses are of course expensive as well as exclusive facilities; however, these offer much more in the way of amenities such as food service (and you’ll find that the food at a private LA golf course restaurant to be excellent) as well as other activities; sometimes, a relaxing swim after a game is just the thing, followed by a cocktail at the onsite lounge.

You won’t find such amenities at public Los Angeles golf courses, though the play can be just as challenging. One major difference is the cost; as you might expect, you’ll pay much less to play at a public golf course. Los Angeles visitors will probably prefer public facilities for just this reason. Fortunately, there are lodging facilities that are quite convenient to these la golf courses when you come to visit on business or for pleasure.

Los Angeles Tee Times

Visitors to the City of Angels will want to take advantage of the less-crowded Los Angeles tee times, which are generally during weekday mornings. These are the least expensive times to enjoy Los Angeles golf courses, and will give you the pleasure of a more leisurely-paced game as well.

The Full Swing Golf Way: Pioneering Golf Simulator Company Makes Indoor Golf More Relevant In Tough Times

The Full Swing Golf Way: Pioneering Golf Simulator Company Makes Indoor Golf More Relevant In Tough Times

ORLANDO, FL–(Marketwire – February 8, 2010) - Full Swing Golf, manufacturer and distributor of premium golf simulators, has been busy during this downturn in the economy. When many companies are struggling to keep the numbers out of the red, Full Swing actually increased their research and development, forged new relationships, and created new ways to bring indoor golfto more people around the world.

Enter the 2010 PGA Merchandise Show, held annually in the Orange County Convention Center, just across the freeway from Walt Disney World. Arguably the world’s premier golf trade show, every facet of the golf industry is showcased during the 3 day event — from GPS guided golf carts to the latest in golf range tee design. Full Swing Golf used this occasion to bring its entire family of employees, international distributors, and partners together to discuss their one common vision… that utilizing an indoor golf simulator is a great way to grow the game of golf. As the dialogue ensued between the various representatives from the Americas, Asia, and Europe, one fact became abundantly clear — that the massive booth in which they were conversing was a testament to the seriousness of their purpose.

Upon entering the 4400 square foot space, it had the feeling of an interactive mall, with simulator after simulator lining a corridor that lead to a 40 foot long mobile clubhouse. In each direction was a bay with the latest in virtual golf innovations. The first bay, a custom designed home theater-style simulator, entertained an emphatic crowd that cheered on several Long Drive competitors as they attempted to out distance one another. Another golf simulator, facing the main thoroughfare, was home to a pair of innovations developed over the past year by the company that drove home the new reality of virtual golf. A single camera, designed to directly measure the ballistic spin of the golf ball, adds crucial exact measurements to complex algorithms designed to control the flight of a virtual golf ball. Translation… Golfers were working the ball, mimicking real-life outdoor shots with acceptance on their faces as they stepped out of the simulator.

The other showcased feature in this bay was a bit hard to comprehend at first, seeming to defy the laws of physics. It’s called the Bounceless Pass Thru Screen. The real ball is struck and it continues to the screen, but instead of bouncing off of it, it passes directly through the screen and on to the other side — without disturbing the beautiful course.

“The Pass Thru Screen is a patented item that is groundbreaking. As your ball hits the screen, it goes through and basically just disappears. It really enhances the indoor (golf) experience,” says Brian Arnold, President of Full Swing Golf.

Traveling through the bustling exhibit to the other end were a couple of impressive new products that are suited for the traveling golfer, entrepreneurs, PGA Professionals, or corporate hospitality. The Newport Portable Simulator is a compact simulator solution that folds up into the size of a large suitcase. Weighing a mere 175 pounds, it can be set up in under 30 minutes. Among some of the impressive features were a large screen, stunning course graphics, and ball flight accuracy that seemed to please every golfer that stepped on for a test drive. The back end of the booth boasted a 40 foot mobile clubhouse on wheels with a simulator built into the side. Franchising opportunities for this unique traveling golf club were being advertised, as a long line of golfers stepped in and took a shot at winning a free Newport Simulator in a closest-to-the-hole competition. The winner knocked a golf ball 9″ from the hole on the second day of the show.

Full Swing Golf is making an effort to drive indoor golf to a wider range of people around the world. By developing innovative technologies, more accessibility, and advancements in the overall realness of the sport, the game of golf can only prosper from a new generation of enthusiasts who embrace what Full Swing is delivering.

Golf Swing Secrets, Golf Swing Tips for More Accurate Shots and Is There a Golf Swing Secret?

Golf Swing Secrets, Golf Swing Tips for More Accurate Shots and Is There a Golf Swing Secret?

Article by Maxwell Farmer

Ask any amateur golfer, and they will have their own golf swing secret. It may have something to do with their head or their chin if it is something to do with making contact. If they have an issue with speed or aim, it may have something to do with their hips or shoulders. Golfers have secrets regarding their back, their knees, their heels, and of course, their grip. For each person, there is another type of “secret” that will work – although in most cases, there is just a fundamental error in your swing that needs to be brought to your attention. They will concentrate solely on their hips and forget their shoulders, or they will think about their left hand and forget about the backswing.A golf swing secret that works for many people is about as basic as it gets – watch the ball. The first one of the two would be the one plane golf swing. This swing refers to the concept of your shoulder plane and swing plane becoming one and the same. In short, if you were to record your swing action from behind and then draw a line extending from your two shoulders plus a line extending from the leading arm then those lines will be parallel to each other for the one plane swing. This results in a flatter, not so deep swing that is definitely becoming increasingly well known to the masters at this time. Not like the one plane golf swing is the two plane swing movement. The two plane swing is really what its title signifies; your shoulder plane as well as swing plane are certainly not in line and for that reason they are on two different planes. This allows for a steeper angle in your swing action including a bigger arc which, as stated earlier, may be good and bad. I hope it will help you determine the kind of golf swing you might have as well as which one could be better for you.No one secret can fix the problems that you are having as well as everyone else’s. For each person, there is another type of “secret” that will work – although in most cases, there is just a fundamental error in your swing that needs to be brought to your attention. The problem with these is that many people will concentrate so hard on one aspect of their swing that they will forget all about the other parts – bringing the club back, through the ball, and finishing strong. Golf Swing Biomechanics is the science behind the golf swing. Each shot uses different muscles in various sequences to generate optimal club downswing speed in order to hit the ball farther and more accurately. But before a player initiates the mechanics of the swing they must first set up the swing using the pre-swing.The pre-swing is the phase where the golfer positions themselves relative to the ball. The aim behind the chip shot is to land the ball on the greens accurately with negligible roll. Thus, a golfer must not turn the shoulders in order to give more control of the flight path. The putt is always used for getting the ball in the hole from the green or as close as possible to the hole from the fringe. The face of the club should start behind the ball and square to the target path.

Why Flexibility is More Important Than Strength for a Powerful Golf Swing

Why Flexibility is More Important Than Strength for a Powerful Golf Swing

Copyright (c) 2008 Scott Cole

While in my late teens and early twenties, I won a local long drive contest three years in a row. During that period, I never weighed more than 160 pounds at a height of 6 feet tall. However, I was able to consistently drive the golf ball over 270 yards at a time when we were still playing with wood drivers with steel shafts. I was able to do this because I have a long golf swing with a wide arc.

Do you remember watching Tiger Woods in his amateur playing days and when he first came out on tour? In 1996, when he joined the tour, he weighed 158 pounds, standing at 6’2. Remember when Tiger was able to hit driver, wedge into the 15th hole at Augusta during his first Masters victory? That was a 500 yard par 5 at the time? Tiger was not the super strong athlete we see today. In fact, although he has added 25-30 pounds of muscle, he really does not hit the ball much further now than he did then.

Remember Sam Snead? Into his later years, he reportedly could still kick the top of a doorway with one foot still on the floor. It is no wonder that he remained very competitive on the PGA Tour into his 50′s. He set the record for oldest winner on the PGA Tour at the age of 52. In fact here is a story I learned while playing the Virginia State Intercollegiate tournament at The Cascades in Hot Springs. In 1973, Sam Snead’s nephew, J.C. Snead, a long time PGA Tour player, set the course record on the Lower Cascades course with a round of 60. In 1983, ten years later, Sam Snead tied it! He was 71 at the time!

I guarantee that Sam Snead did very little weight lifting, but knew the importance of flexibility!

I have played with many muscular golfers over time, but few could hit the ball as far as me. This was due to their inferior golf swing. They had focused most of their fitness training on building big muscles, rather than flexibility. Therefore, it is most important for you to develop more flexibility first. I can think of a number of hockey players and NFL quarterbacks that play golf pretty well, but not a single NFL linebacker!

With this in mind, it is my recommendation that if you have a golf swing that falls far short of having good extension with the arms, a good shoulder turn and a nice wide arcing swing, you should focus your attention on stretching first! A good stretching routine that covers the entire body will take about 30-40 minutes to complete, and should be done two to three times per week.

After you have noticed a considerable increase in your flexibility, which you should see in a couple of months, you should begin to notice greater ability to get that fuller shoulder turn and longer arm extension in your golf swing. Bear in mind, your flexibility will also be enhanced if you are carrying less baggage on your body as well. Aside from John Daly, who is naturally gifted and has been very flexible since his junior days, you don’t see too many very overweight golfers with a big full swing like Tiger Woods. Therefore, consider a proper diet and aerobic conditioning program with your flexibility routine.

After a period of time, and you notice significantly greater flexibility in your golf swing, then consider a strengthening program if want to add more distance.

One note about some of the golf training gimmicks out there. Some of them do have some merit. However, I do not believe in using a weighted golf club for strength training, and here is why. The golf swing is NOT a natural motion for the human body, and for many golfers, it has caused a lifetime of back problems. Just ask Lee Trevino, Fred Couples and Seve Ballesteros. The fact is the golf swing itself is very hard on the back, knees, hips, shoulders, elbows and wrists. Therefore, swinging a weighted golf club with any force at all simply makes no sense to me. I swing a weighted club very slowly for the sole purpose of loosening muscles before practice or a round of golf, but never for the purpose of trying to build up my golf muscles! On that note, swinging a weighted golf club nice and slow right after your stretching routine makes a good bit of sense to work on that fuller extension and shoulder turn in your swing.

By improving your flexibility, you will be able to develop a more natural and fluid golf swing that will be a bit easier on the body over time. Then you can focus on improving your strength to enhance performance even further! With that in mind, flexiblity first, strength second!
