Golf Swing Power – How to Hit the Ball Farther
Article by John J. Braun
One of the biggest farces in golf is that the amount of muscle you have will constitute how much power your golf swing will have. This is not true whatsoever. Power, when referring to the golf swing, comes from club head speed. You could have the biggest muscles in the world but at the same time be unable to hit a golf ball 50 yards! The key to power is club head speed.
Generate more power with these aspects:
Flexibility
The more flexible a golfer is, the better. Torque is the word used to describe the power generated from flexibility. Rotational power is a synonym for torque. The more flexible you are, the easier you are going to be able to rotate your body. This results in a more powerful golf swing.
Reduced Army Tension
Gripping the club with all your might will not prove what kind of man you are, instead it will only detract from the power of your golf swing. This is one of the many problems novice golfers will face when first picking up a golf club. They think to themselves, “I’m going to hit this ball to China (depending on where the golfer resides).” Instead of hitting the ball as far as possible, they end up spending too much thought on overpowering the ball. The golf club needs to be treated as a useful tool. When using power tools, you need to treat them with care or they can hurt you. Well, instead of the golf club hurting you, you might hurt yourself after you hit it 100 yards off the tee for 4 straight holes. Keep your arms relaxed, it will help you hit the ball farther.
Head Position
Keeping your head steady when making your golf swing is almost as important as moving your arms. By keeping your head at a level, steady position, it allows you to hit the ball on the sweet spot of the club. When you hit the sweet spot, naturally, the ball will travel farther. Sometimes creating more power in your swing depends on the little things.
Heavier Clubs
Believe it or not, they actually make heavier golf clubs. I’m not talking about the drivers that could hold a gallon of water. These are actual clubs that weigh more on the scales. The extra mass is needed on the club head. This will help you when you are swinging because it will generate more whip, essentially, transferring more energy into the ball.
