A strong and well executed golf swing is one of the best tools a golfer can have in their arsenal. Without a proper swing method in place, you are likely to slice and fall into other commonly encountered problems during your golf game. Golf swing drills can help you hit the ball straight toward your target every time and improve your game tremendously. Below are just a few of the drills you can use on a daily basis to perfect your swing.

1) Wrist Action Drill

One of the most important golf swing drills that you can practice for consistency is the wrist action drill. Without proper wrist action, you leave yourself open to hitting the ball with the wrong part of the club face or at the wrong time, which can lead to problems such as a slice or hook.

To execute this drill, simply hit several balls with your hands spread apart on the club and not formed into your normal grip. This will help you better understand how it is supposed to feel when the club reacts with the ball in the right way. After hitting several with your hands apart, move them back together in your typical grip and work to maintain the same feeling.

2) Practicing the Ideal Swing Arm Movement

Stand with your feet apart about shoulders� width. Place your arms straight down in front of you with the palms of the hands together. Focus on keeping your hands together and touching during the entire drill. If the hands come apart, then you are not performing the movements correctly. Golf swing drills that train your arms are some of the most important you can perform.

Make a practice swing with your hands together and no club. Let your arms rotate as needed in order to keep the hands together, but make sure the left arm remains straightened. Bring the swing back as far as you can, but stop when you feel your hands being torn apart. This drill is designed to help you understand how your arms should move during an ideal swing.

3) Balance and Legwork Drill

This is one of the golf swing drills that will help you understand how your weight should be shifting during your swing. To complete this drill, you should get down on your knees and place a golf club across the back of your shoulders. Lean forward like you were going to take a swing at a ball in front of you, then turn your left shoulder to the right until it is under your chin. This simulates the motion of the backswing and the club on your shoulders should be perpendicular to the imaginary ball. Your weight should noticeably shift to your right knee.

Next, rotate your right shoulder to the front until it is level with your chin. This simulates the downswing and you should feel your weight shifting to the left knee. If you do not notice the weight shifting during either movement or your club does not end up perpendicular to the ball, then you are not moving in the correct manner and leaving yourself open to a slice or other common golfing problems.

Golf swing drills can help you train your body how to move in the right way to get the most out of your swing. Without a powerful and perfectly executed swing, you are bound to run into problems and are not likely to make accurate shots.

Golf is a game that can be very easy to over complicate. In order to achieve a consistent golf swing, you need to focus on keeping everything simple. Here are two drills that will help you perfect the most simple effective swing that you are capable of performing.

1. Your set up position is the first thing you need to work on. The drill that will be performed is named the “railroad track” drill which will help you have the proper alignment in your set up. This simple, easy to perform drill goes as follows. First of all, you need to lay a club down right in front of your feet and have it point slightly left of your target. The next step is to lay another club down directly in front of the golf ball. However, this club will be positioned directly at your target. This simple method holds two purposes: to align your club head towards the target and to align your body properly. Both need to be aligned in slightly different ways, but the railroad track drill makes this feel comfortable. Simple isn’t it?

2. Secondly, you need to try out the “toe up” drill. This drill involves the backswing, however, you only go as high as your hip and no higher. Once you reach your hip you stop the backswing right there. The club, which is only hip high in altitude, should be parallel with the line of your body. If the toe of your club is pointing towards the sky, that means that your swing is on plane. A swing that is on plane will ultimately result in better shots.

These two drills are beyond simple. All you need to do is practice them for maybe 20 minutes each day to start seeing results. Of course these aren’t the only easy drills that can improve your swing consistency. Many more can be found on my website.

Steps to a better golf swing – Easy step # 1- Swing Easier

The first step you will need to take is learn how to swing the driver easier. I don’t know how many times especially on the first tee I see people just get up to their tee shot and just swing as hard as they can at the ball. Golf is a game of opposites. I know it sounds weird but the harder you swing at the ball more times than not the shorter and more crooked it will go.

The key to getting off the tee is to focus on swinging easier to start. If you concentrate on swinging easy, it will revolutionize your ability to position yourself for a good approach shot when you are hitting out of the fairway and not trying to punch out of the trees.

Then once you establish a good tempo throughout your round you can then start to swing a little harder to create more club head speed. But, again if you start out swinging as hard as you can you will not be creating a good tempo in your swing for the rest of the round.

Steps to a better golf swing – Easy step # 2 – Switch to a lower spin golf ball

It seems that in today’s golf world everyone is trying to use a golf ball that will give them the most spin as possible. Well, I’m going to tell you that having to much spin on a golf ball will in fact be much harder for the average golfer to have as much control of were it is going.

I no it sounds crazy but if you use a lower spin golf ball like the Titleist DT Solo, Precept Laddie or Maxfli Noodle your going lessen the spin on the ball causing it to fly much straighter. Just give it a try.

Here is a way for you to test this theory

When you go out to practice take 2 balls with you. High spin ball and a low spin ball. Play 9 holes by yourself to test this. On each tee hit each ball and you will be shockingly surprised that the lower spin ball will go straighter than the low spin ball.

The golfswing. Is there really a better way?

Hello golfers! I built this site to try and help inform golfers who really want to improve their golf game. There are a lot of great instructional videos and teaching aids out there to help you. But without spending a lot of money what items do you buy? And which ones really work? So I decided to point out a teaching aid I have suggested over the years and is still in use to this day.

 

First of all I am not a golf professional but I have worked in a golf pro shop for many years and have had many people ask me how I learned to swing the golf club. I always find myself practically giving everyone a golf lesson for free. I don’t mind at all and I am flattered by the compliments. But all I try to do is point out a few things and help them improve their swing.

The one thing people notice about my golf swing is that it looks effortless and they ask why the ball seems to fly a long way. I explain to them that I didn’t start this way. But what I did learn in the beginning was to stop forcing the swing and let the club do the work. Explain please? This is always the next question. So my answer is always the same. The design of the club it not that of a baseball bat and everybody incorporates this concept into their golf swings. It’s a natural reaction and we all do it.

 

Take a look at the design of golf club the thickest part of the shaft is in you hands and the thinnest is at the opposite end, it flexes unlike the baseball bat and it does not flex. You would be surprised to know how many people do not understand this.   

Everybody wants to hit the golf ball further but without the use of this design and the proper elements of the golf swing it will never happen.

 

So I always refer to the Medicus. This is a great way to get you in the right positions at every point of your swing. There was a teaching method called “The Ten Point Swing”.

I learned this method when I started and I truly believed this is what started me to off to a good golf swing. I didn’t have the Medicus but it’s the same concept of this teaching method.  In the lesson of the “Ten Point Swing” the method explains in great detail where you should be at every crucial point of your golf swing. This allows you to take the club away at every critical part of the swing and bring it to back the point of impact time and time again.

 

We all know that muscle memory is the key to a better golf swing. I remember reading what a doctor had stated “That the golf swing is the most difficult function for the human brain to repeat” Why? Because the use of so many muscles that the brain can not send out the same signals to every muscle in your body exactly the same way twice. It is even harder than a baseball swing, why? Because a baseball swing uses muscles for defense this is a normal reaction of the brain.

 

Have you ever heard the phrase “Relax and just hit the ball” how can you do this when the brain will not relax enough to hit the smallest object not in motion? So without a natural defense the brain needs something else to do, so it worries about what is going to happen next before you hit the ball. This is why muscle memory is a key component in a golf swing. This will allow you to free up the brain and send information where it matters most.

 

This is why I have been referring the Medicus ever since I was introduced to it. It is the most responsive teaching aid to help build muscle memory and help you swing the golf club correctly. It uses a hinge built right into the shaft that when you are in the wrong position it breaks down. This keeps you from making the same mistakes over and over again. Once you have taken the club back correctly it will not break down. Now as you start the swing down towards the ball the hinge stays locked, this is a great feeling because you are now in the right position to strike the ball.

I have seen golfers take expensive video cameras to the range and film themselves. I have even seen a guy once take a back swing hit and break his camera. Why do people do this you might wonder? So they can later see what they are doing wrong. This seems funny to me because by the time they study the film how do they know what they are doing wrong?

That’s what the Medicus gives you quick response to know what exactly you are doing wrong without expensive cameras. If you plan on taking golf lessons let me tell you this. I have found most golfers are embarrassed to take lessons from a professional, but they will take advice from a friend and never improve their swing.

I strongly believe you should take lessons from a golf professional, but before you do and spend hundreds of dollars first. Get your Medicus club, practice and develop a golf swing that you can allow them to work with. It will be the best investment in your golf swing you ever made!
