Mike Austin’s Pivot

Watch this clip over and over and you’ll see the tightness of Mike Austin’s rotation around his spine. It was this rotation combined with his full weight shift to the left foot on the downswing that gave his technique the power that you just don’t see in the swing. I haven’t even mastered his technique yet and still I’ve hit two drives over 373 yards this season. And that’s off the tee, in play on the golf course, not at a driving range.

@MAlatinboy Mike stepped to his left and threw the club underhanded from the top.
A great drill is to see if you can hit the ball with only your trailing arm and let the hand release and hit it. Amazing, effortless power if done correctly.

  3. fdates15 says:

@Nightwing690 Mike wanted the club parallel to the target line. If a person was coming over the top, he’d rather have the student cross the line than have the club pointed out to left field for a right hander.

was mike crossed at the top?

  5. MAlatinboy says:

from the looks of it, he takes the club back like i do. i just can’t transfer the power or swing as fast as he did. 515 with persimmon, steel-shafted drivers makes him a legend in his own right. and it sounds like you’re able to utilize his tips well!
